Art is my method of communicating with the world. I am driven to create. Making something that has never existed before gives me joy.
My desire is to entertain. Through my various works of art it is my purpose to provide a portal into a fantasy world. I juxtapose the real and commonplace with the whimsical and sometimes nonsensical. I see it as an exercise in blurring the line between fact and fiction. This is something that we lose with age as the problems of the world come down on us. I wish to remind my viewer of their youthful imagination.
When confronted with a visual problem, I allow my inspiration to guide me, often choosing the visual ideas seldom utilized. The materials that I use most are pencil and paper, but I am beginning to branch out. In the past several years, classes and a general curiosity have led me into new mediums of expressing myself. Clay, for instance, has such a malleable adaptability to it workings, while the finished product has such a tangible concrete existence. Another medium is acrylic paints. Paint's ability to denote emotion and motion with just a change of hue is something I find transfixing.
It is my desire to explore every possibility and discover the farthest limits of my abilities.
